Easley, Sc

In 1870, railroad officials decided to connect Charlotte NC and Atlanta GA; three grade sites were surveyed with one being routed through Anderson SC and Athens GA, another through

Pendleton SC and Cornelia GA and the last through Pickensville; however, General William King Easley who was the first Adjutant General of South Carolina and prominent railroad attorney and member of legislature drew up a route that was one mile north of Pickensville which eventually was the route chosen. The Charter of Easley Station was ratified on January 20, 1874 with a land area of one square mile; in 1901 the Charter was changed to make the village a town.

Today, Easley is a culturally diverse community with approximately 20,000 city residents residing within the city limits which has a service area encompassing in excess of eleven (11) square miles that includes over 140 miles of Federal and State Highways and City Streets that are routed through and within the city limits with an average daily traffic flow of more than 100,000 vehicles.

Area's growth keeps Easley South Carolina post office busy

The parking lot isn't packed but it's full enough this day to keep the clerks behind the counter at the Easley SC post office pretty busy.

During the late morning and early afternoon, customers walk in and out of the brick building's tinted double doors. Some wait patiently in line with packages. Others head straight to a stamp machine in the lobby while some get a quick peep inside their post office boxes.

Greenville resident Tony Grant has only visited the facility a couple of times but is pleased that he doesn't have to wait around too long. "I get in and out."

Much of the action starts long before the doors are open to the public. Mail clerks arrive as early as 4 a.m. to sort packages and letters and other items for delivery.

Easley SC resident Amy Branch said she comes to the post office daily on business and receives quality customer service. "No matter how busy it is, they always will smile at you," she said.

And it can get very busy, said Branch, who has lived in Easley SC 16 years. "A lot more are people coming through here. Easley South Carolina is growing rapidly."

The Easley SC post office is one of the larger facilities in the Upstate, with 41 city and rural routes. "We have 24,695 deliveries every day," said postmaster Jeffrey White. "We are anticipating a new rural route probably within the next 60 days, and that's due to the growth factor."

The Easley South Carolina post office was first established in 1856. The current 30,000-square-foot facility is on South Pendleton Street, just off U.S. 123, and is convenient to nearby businesses such as Wal-Mart and Bi-Lo. It's equipped with a spacious lobby and 2,182 residential and business post-office boxes.

"Over the years, the postal service has really enhanced their ability to do a lot of things," said White, citing the one of the facility's latest features -- an Automated Postal Center machine.

Patrons can use their credit or debit cards with this machine for many services including mailing packages, purchasing stamps and sending certified letters.

"The goal is to cut down on the wait time," White said.
