After living in Indianapolis and Michigan for several years, Lynn and Lee Gunnells wanted to come back to their native Upstate in Greenville SC. Being Mauldin SC natives and Hillcrest High School grads, they targeted the Golden Strip area and eventually came across Sycamore Ridge in the Simpsonville SC area.
"We wanted to come back home ... and we always wanted to live in this triangle of the Simpsonville-Fountain Inn area," Mrs. Gunnells said. "We were just driving around when they had open house."
And after attending an open house, they were sold. "We like it here. It's a nice, convenient spot. It's close to the church where our kids grew up," said Mrs. Gunnells, who has four adult children.
Located at the intersection of Howard Drive and Turnhouse Lane, about 2-1/2 miles from the clock tower in Simpsonville, SC, Sycamore Ridge comprises 170 Simpsonville SC homes with custom features and a variety of exterior styles. Some have two-car garages. Others Simpsonville SC homes have three. Most are two-story Simpsonville SC homes and square footage ranges from 2,400 to 5,000 and up. Prices range from $275,000 to $560,000.
Another 20 Simpsonville SC homes are planned on the real estate in this neighborhood, said Melissa Morrell, marketing representative for IKE Construction, one of the builders for Sycamore Ridge.
Jim Gossett saw Sycamore Ridge, in Simpsonville SC as the perfect opportunity to build a custom home. "We just worked with our builder and kind of modified a little bit," Gossett said. "This is the first one where we've actually been involved in laying out what we've wanted. We joked that my wife has a Ph.D. in faucets now."
Amenities for the Simpsonville SC neighborhood include a junior Olympic pool, two lighted tennis courts, a clubhouse and sidewalks. Resident Kandace Farmer-Flythe said she has used the clubhouse to host a baby shower and Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
Flythe, who has lived in Sycamore Ridgein Simpsonville SC for nearly four years, said she enjoys the aesthetics of the neighborhood, the real estate, and was initially attracted to the large wooded lots.
"I felt like for the price, it was a bargain really," said Flythe, whose SC real estate backs up to a golf course.
The Simpsonville SC neighborhood is adjacent to Fox Run Country Club, where homeowners may apply for memberships, or they can use the facilities at Carolina Springs Golf & Country Club in Fountain Inn on a fee basis, said Morrell.
Resident Susan Kendrick said she appreciates the neighborhood and real estate's quiet setting and convenient location.
"It's a little rural," Kendrick said. "It's like you're out in the country. You don't see all the traffic. It's less congested."
Gossett said he likes the fact that many of the original trees are still in place.
"We have three big water oaks in our back yard. ... We just like the feel of the neighborhood. It's got a real nice woodsy feel. It's very gently rolling, so it's great for walks. People walk all over the neighborhood. It's a very friendly neighborhood."
It's pet-friendly as well, said Flythe, whose husband, Jimmie, often walks their dog, Ocho, throughout the neighborhood. "We got the dog from my husband's grandmother. ... He was the eighth puppy in the litter." Hence the name, Ocho, which means "eight" in Spanish. "Everyone knows Ocho," she said. " In my cul-de-sac, everyone has a dog and they all play well together."
Sycamore Ridge Simpsonville SC real estate is a socially active neighborhood, said resident Babette Jones, citing a men's Bible study, a children's swim team and a women's book club.
"I'm on the welcoming committee and the Christmas decorations committee," Jones said. "So it's just very organized. We have a quarterly newsletter where we feature special things that are going on in the neighborhood. That's also one way to welcome all of our new neighbors."
