Mount Pleasant Area Neighborhoods
"Mount Pleasant has been known for its historic architecture, fine seafood, recreational amenities, residential communities and temperate climate. The traditional water-oriented focus of the town is evidenced by the location of the Old Village district along the Harbor and the long presence of the shrimping and fishing industries in Shem Creek... To complement these unique local resources, recent improvements to the highway network provide excellent access to the East Cooper area from all parts of the region. The Mark Clark Expressway (I-526) provides easy access to I-26 and the Charleston International Airport, while the Isle of Palms connector makes the area's beaches more accessible than ever. U. S. Higway 17 also runs through Mt. Pleasant, linking Mount Pleasant to Charleston and the Grand Strand.... To local residents and business owners, Moount Pleasant represents quality of life factors that include the most outstanding public School System in the metropolitan area, one of the highest per capita incomes in the Southeast, a broad range of excellent housing, a healthy local economy, superb public and private recreational facilities and a beautiful natural environment." From the Town of Mt.Pleasant General Information Brochure. A recent newspaper article ranked Mt. Pleasant as one of the three wealthiest household incomes in the Charleston area with an average household income of greater than $70,000. East of the Cooper, or also known as the East Cooper area, which encompasses Mt. Pleasant, is and area of many newcomers. Many people purchase second homes or retirement homes because of the beautiful South Carolina weather in Mt Pleasant, and the easy acess to the beaches of Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island. As the information brochure says, the new Isle of Palms connector allows this easy access. Being a relative newcomer to the area myself, the drive is quite gorgeous. The beaches at the Isle Of Palms and Sullivans Island offer the peace and tranquility for a long quiet walk with sound of the ocean and the feel of the warm breeze blowing upon you. Take your dog for a walk and forget about the world. Just don't forget your leash...well the dog's leash anyway.
