Beaches


There are public and private beaches scattered along the coast. In the are East of the Cooper River, you can enjoy the soft sand of the Beaches of Sullivan's Island and the Isle of Palms beaches.  If you prefer a more secluded area, the beach at Wild Dunes may be to more of your liking.  To the south of the city of Charleston is Folly Beach.  Surfing is enjoyed at many of the areas.  Although Kiawah Island offers a public beach it has limited parking.  The Seabrook Island beach is private.

Fishing, Boating, and Sailing


Sailing is one of Charleston's favorite year round sports with regattas sponsored during the season by the College of Charleston and area yacht clubs.  Boats can be chartered for fishing or you can simply fish from the pier or the surf. 

If you prefer freshwater fishing, Berkeley County is the place to be.  Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion are enjoyed by fisherman as arguably two of the best freshwater lakes in South Carolina.

Crabbing and shrimping are also popular leisure activities.  Endless creeks and rivers provide the best boating, water skiing, in the state of South Carolina.
Many public boat landings are available at the finest marinas along the Intra Coastal Waterway.

Golf, Tennis, and Swimming


Golf is one of Charleston's
 most popular sports. From Patriot's Point Golf Course to the nationally ranked course at Wild Dunes, there is a course for everyone. Tennis can be found at private residential clubs, as well as in the city's parks. Numerous invitational tournaments throughout the Metro area attract pro players, including the ever popular Family Circle Cup which included Venus and Serena Williams, Jennifer Capriati, and Lindsay Davenport.  Many local residents also are involved in local tennis tournaments. Novice swim teams, formed in neighborhood pools, are extremely popular with young people.
